Can you beat a fashion blogger!?

 Over the last few years bloggers have really stepped up their game, with coveted wardrobes, thousands of followers and tickets to fashion week.. how would you like a day in the life of a fashion blogger!?  Well now you can be in with a chance thanks to style.co.uk. They have rounded up 5 fashion bloggers who have each given us a trend they will be wearing to London Fashion Week this September. All you need to do is sent in a photo of your individual take on the chosen trend, photos will be put into a gallery on style.co.uk, and the public will vote who wore the trend best. Anyone who wins the trend category will instantly win a pair of tickets to Vodafone London Fashion Weekend(22-25Sept) The winner of each trend category will then go head to head with the blogger who chose the trend and another vote will take place. Slaves to fashion?

Iconic designer Barbara Hulanicki claims that women dress less well now as people are too concerned about whats fashionable and following trends. She believes the fashion sense of women has become far too predictable. Hulanicki has said.. "Women have such boring wardrobes these days because they must follow fashion, they must, they must. But sometimes it's about saying, 'Oh, this would work well with that.'"  

Hulanicki founded iconic store Biba in the sixties and received an OBE in 2012 for her contribution to fashion.  I have to say I do kind of agree with Barbara Hulanicki about women being slaves to fashion and religiously following trends. I think it may be because high street stores take on trends, and a huge number of people buy their clothes from there, so whether they're interested in fashion or not they are still buying into these trends in some way. I must say i definitely am bored of walking down the high street and seeing hoards of girls in beanies, crop tops and shorts like little Rihanna cardboard cutouts. I actually even stumbled across a page on the internet on how to dress like Rihanna..oh god. I also feel that where other decades had exciting subcultures such as hippies,mods,rockers,punks and so on.. in recent years there hasn't been a big movement like this resulting in more exciting and outrageous fashion.

Barbara Hulanicki has also admitted "It's very difficult to know what to wear now. That's why I always wear black." I have to say I don't blame her you can't go wrong in a black outfit.. plus I think she's looking pretty fabulous for a woman of 77!

According to WGSN, yellow is set to be the colour of the summer! End of the slag heel?

For years women have been choosing a high heel over a kitten. French actress Catherine Deneuve claims that a mid heel is far sexier and it's down to twisted designers that people are obsessed with five inch heels. She has revealed that for her portrayal of Severine Serizy, in the 1967 film Belle De Jour, where a housewife turns to prostitution, she deliberately swerved away from high heels and instead went for a clunky mid-heeled Roger Vivier pair of shoes. Overnight Deneuve turned the shoe into a massive success and Vivier sold 200,00 pairs in one year alone. Deneuve has said that with a more demure, lower heel, women can feel "free, emancipated,as if we can deal with life's challenges." and asked "Do women today really want to make caricatures of themselves?"  Im really not a fan of the kitten heel myself, I could never see myself wearing them. I like how a high heel, can make the legs appear slimmer and longer and make an outfit look dressed up and polished. Kitten heels have always reminded me of a nan at a wedding kind of shoe. Saying that, recently my opinion has been changed, ever so slightly, Zara particularly has been catching my eye with its dainty stroppy sandals with a small heel, I don't think kitten heels will ever take over high heels, but these beauts from Zara are definitely a contender in the shoe stakes for me!
